Pakistan's own T20 league idea
emerged in the framework of Dr. Nasim Ashraf who served as PCB president from
2007 to 2008. The main inspiration of the league comes from currently stopped
ICL and successful IPL. However, when Musharraf who was the main supporter in
August 2008 resigned, when Ashraf resigned and stalled the setting of PCBs,
this idea never fulfilled until it found its own feet.
During the tenure of Ashraf, PCB
stockpile has been reported to have decreased from US $ 42 million to US $ 19
million. As a result, Ejaz Butt, the next chairperson, pulled out all the huge
projects, including the T20 league, from the system and shelved them. But one
year later, Zaka Ashraf, the next president, announced a profitable business
model that gained up to $ 1 million in two weeks and revived the project.
